Stretch mark prevention during pregnancy

Stretch mark prevention during pregnancy

When you reach your second trimester (usually), if it already hasn’t, your baby belly will start to pop! Sometimes the quick growth results in stretch marks. Women most often get stretch marks on their tummy, thighs, hips and their breasts during pregnancy.

With my first pregnancy I religiously applied these products on my belly, thighs and breast morning, noon and night (literally). And I only got small little stretch marks on my hips in the last few weeks. I was so sure I would get the tiger stripes, because I’ve heard and read many times that stretch marks are genetically linked… so if your Mom had them, you are more likely to get them. My Mom has loads, so I thought I would at least try  and keep them at bay.

So, how do you prevent stretch marks?

  • Many women swear by moisturizing their skin to help prevent stretch marks. I do too.
The following Creams/oils were my go to:

  1. Bio-Oil

Bio-Oil claims to be the world’s leading scar and stretch mark product. It isn’t too oily for me, was absorbed quickly and worked well.

Find it here.

2.  Palmer’s Tummy Butter

This butter is delicious for itchy skin! Especially during the end of the 3rd trimester.

Find it here.

3.  Palmer’s Strech Mark Massage Cream

This I kept in my handbag and rubbed on during lunch, in the middle of my day. Smells yummy and works great!

Find it here.

4. Coconut Oil

Good old coconut oil. Any brand should work. It remedies most skin ailments, and I love using it in the shower to rub over my tummy and quickly afterwards. Then I would apply another product over the coconut oil. It’s cheap, but very effective.

Find it here.

I varied the creams and oils as I saw fit. But I can recommend each and every one.

  • The other thing which I think is super important is lots and lots of water. Liters of it. Each and every day.

This worked for me during my first and now, second pregnancy. Anything you would add to this list?
